question for DC/MD folks
Are there any bike shops in the area that regularly carry track bikes? I got into riding in Richmond, now moved back to MD, and don't know too much in the area in regard to bikes. I have a fixed gear conversion right now but want to invest in a track bike.

City Bikes in Adams Morgan is a good spot.
As of a few days ago, Revolution Cycles in G'town had a few Surly's built up.

College Park Bicycles has some stuff; I think I saw Bianchi and Specialized there:
https://www.bike123.com/
There's a place in Silver Spring called Simply cycles (I think). I've never been there unfortunately, but have heard they carry track bikes.

City Bikes in adams morgan stocks langsters, pistas, the Soma Pake frame, and they also have a Kona Swiss national track team bike. (It's labelled as the dutch national track team bike, but this weekend at the world cup, the swiss guys were riding that exact frame and the dutch guys were riding something a little more obscenely shaped).
ps - y'all should come ride with the pirates. really. we have fun.

Bike Club in Falls Church VA just opened a second location that stocks alot of track stuff. Its on US 29, a few blocks from the recyclery esc Bike Club. They dont carry any stock bikes, its all frames that they build up, with decent componants. and theyve got frames around too, and some old wooden rims laced to some old campy track hubs too and a parrot that talks.

Capitol Hill will have langsters and pistas. They're a LeMond dealer too so they may have a Fillmore.
Any shop can order a surly.
And while buying a complete bike is a better value, it's sort of more fun and more rewarding to build your own bike if you can swing it. That gives you lots more frame options. The Pake is like $250 - that's a cheap way to start your build.

Don't forget the Pro Shop at the foot of the Key Bridge in georgetown. They sometimes have deals on nice built-up track bikes that they can't get rid of. I got a Major Taylor there in 2004 for next to nothing. It's also just a nice shop.

I found the pro shop to be unpredictable. All the mechanics are great, once you get back there to chat w them. But I've been and some good friends of mine have been snubbed by the sales staff. Overall, they are alright, but not my fav. Tops goes to city bike and Rev (where ever Pinky is that day or Rockville when Cortney is there)

And the pitchers are big and cheap as everyone there is crazy locals.
It is a hella ride but we could metro it some friday or saturday. Metro puts us within about 2 miles of said Duck Pins.
Back on track (pardon the pun, heehe), Proteus bikes in CP doesn't have so much in the way of track stuff anymore, but i think they do have a guy there that is building cheap, quality custom frames. There are also a few older Proteus frames (both road and track) floating around made by Yamaguchi, a fellow better known as a master builder at 3Rensho. He built for Proteus in the late 80's or early 90's. One track frame hanging at the shop, but not for sale. The owner Jill used to race track and is very knowledgeable. They do have a few vintage parts laying around, like a Campagnolo inch pitch ring.

welcome back to the old line state. if you have a car, some cash and time on your hands, I recommend riding up to mt. airy bicycle, the dude who owns it is a bit weird, but there are some amazing old frames hanging up there, price may be a bit salty, but they're ususally in great condition. also, piles upon piles of old parts free for the rumaging, and usually priced to get the hell out of there.
Also, Race Pace in columbia, or ellicot city, great staff, the mechanics are young, so you don't get that elitest old roadie thing that you get at alot of other shops in the area.
