about the 6001Z bearings in Suzue SB hubs...

what's up with the "Z"?

are regular 6001 (such as Phil's) direct replacements?

i actually just emailed them, but thought someone might have the info here. i'll post whatever i hear from them.

bikecult.com lists "Suzue Pro Max track axle sets $25.00 each, front or rear, 9.5mm x 26tpi x 140mm front and 160mm rear, cones fit #6001 cartridge bearings"

so i'd guess a 6001 is a 6001.

I think the z stands for metal seal, and rs stands for rubber seal. You can get them from skatebearings.com for 78¢. presumably not of the same quality.

phil says their 6001 bearings are a direct replacement. their part number is PW001.

i picked up a set of phil bearings for my promax sb today at the lbs. i've installed them, but won't have the bike on the road for a few days. the wheel sure spins smoothly in my hands, though.

The sealed bearings always seem to stiffen up over time but remain smooth from my experience with the bearings that came in my hub, I don't have any experience with phil's though.

letter designations are usually added by the bearing mfg to designate some small distinction in internal tolerance (ABEC rating), grease fill, or as mattface said, dust shield differences. ID and OD do not change, so yea a 6001XYZ should be a repalcement for a 6001.
