MINNEAPOLIS: dios no existe sunday morning ride

I had a lot of fun riding in the stupor bowl yesterday, my first ever alleycat, and was thinking that it would be fun to have a weekly ride. i know there's a saturday night ride already that some people from here ride, but i can't make that one, so i thought, sunday morning! it's pretty quiet, there's good light, and i think a good ride is a good way to recover from the ills of the weekend. i was thinking maybe meet at ten at either bryant square park or the CRC cafe (not sure how early they open, but that would be ideal) and ride around town for a bit.

i mean, i certainly won't be in church sunday mornings, i can promise you that.

I'm totally down for a Sunday ride, that would be good for the bikers that can't make the Sat. night fiasco and still wanna get a group ride in before the new week starts. I also did the Stuporbowl but got so f**King lost over Nordeast that it took about an hour to get backon track.
    Oops, sorry to threadjack.
Keep me posted about future Sunday rides, okay?

i thought for sure i'd be able to recruit my room-mate for this one, but he usually parties a bit harder than i do and as such requires more of sunday to recover...he seemed less than confident in his ability to rise that early.

also, i went by cars-r-coffins twice today and it seemed fairly dead. makes sense, i suppose, given yesterday's festivities, i just wonder what their normal hours are going to be.

at any rate, i remain undaunted. not sure if two people can be called a group ride or not, but the week is still young. i'm down for kicking it off next sunday. so...

DIOS NO EXISTE Minneapolis Group Ride
    Sunday Mornings
    10:00
Painter Park (34th and Lyndale) - meet by tennis courts
    OR
    Cars-R-Coffins (34th and Lyndale) - provided they're open
    Ride out at 10:20
All are welcome, no tall bikes please.

Sounds like a good time; I'm goona try to make it next week. Is a Peugeot quad-speed retro-direct-drive commuter conversion with cruiser bars and powerful headlights too embarrassing for you?

i rode the Stupor Bowl with a friend who had an insane aluminum cannondale with weird tapered tubes and the kind of spokes where there's four straight ones at each of the cardinal directions. i'm sure there's a tech term for that, but the point is, come ride bikes.

    Spinergy's?

For those of you who were first timers, how easy was it to get in and do the race? I'm interested in doing a few around Chicago when I get back and want to know what I'm up against.

I'm in for the Sunday ride, but would politely request (if it means anything) to push the start time of the ride back so we could make the actual "get together time" earlier at some greasy breakfast joint... maybe the Uptown? Maybe the sunny-side? either way, get some coffee/grease in us before rolling out.

Breakfast sounds okay. French Meadow sounds like an option to me. Kinda expensive, but the cinna-rolls are to die for. That and a huge cup of coffee will wake me right up.

As easy as it is to just stand in line and register. Oh, and also have a good grasp of the city you are racing in or have utter faith in another local.

the thing about breakfast is, i'm vegan, so that would probably screw things up for everyone else as i can eat breakfast at about two places in town.

i'll admit to having been selfish about trying to kick things off at cars-r-coffins, because it's about three blocks from my house, and hell, the ride was my idea, right?

that last part was mostly a joke.

my only other concern is that sunday is my only day to sleep in a little bit. weekdays i work at eight, saturdays i have a class on the east side of saint paul at nine. so i respectfully dissent, but at the same time i'm totally willing to go along with what everybody decides. i'm just happy that i had this idea yesterday morning and now i'm debating with strangers as to the start time. i figure that's a pretty good thing.

actually, i remember hearing that bryant lake bowl has tofu scramble...

So come on guys and girls, lets get something going!!! A place and a time we can all agree on. Bryant Lake sounds good as well, 'cause there's something on the menu we all might be able to eat. Shoot, if someone had a big enough kitchen, I personally wouldn't mind cooking something up for all that wanted to ride. I've got over 12 years in the food sevice industry, two semesters of Culinary Arts under my belt, and a huge passion for eating food I cook. Just a thought, nothing etched in stone. Lets hear some ideas or decide on something already put forth.

gosh, i'd love to join ya'll for the sunday ride part, but i'm always busy serving the breakfast.
the triple rock has more than tofu too, for any vegans out there.
also i've heard that bloody marys are a great pre-ride drink.
    not that i've ever tried...
it might make me cry to watch everyone leave on their bikes while i was stuck walking around with a bunch of eggs on plates all day long though...

I was thinking that the Saturday Night Riders could just continue into the Sunday Morning Riders. I got home at about 8:30 am from an SNR after stopping at Jimmy's for a beverage.

...just like Shelac playing two shows on new years: one at midnight, and one at 9am the next day.

I kind of doubt that I'd be able to pull that off too easily anymore. It would definatly have to wait for a little warmer weather...

How about moving the Sat night ride to like 5-6pm so we can hit happy hours and pass out early, then wake up, chase our hangovers away with screwdrivers and breakfast... We'd be able to get some miles in on Sat without it being dark and cold, too...

I'm thinking the 9am time is good. This Sunday, chime in if you are down.

Sorry... I could go back and edit or delete it... But you'd have to get rid of the quote, too.
