Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

il Pompino sighting

Spent the weekend at the U of M campus in Minneapolis. Saw lots of people on bikes wearing facemasks. Saw a few fixed gear riders. I haunted the local bike shops in my spare time. One of the shops in Dinky Town had a really cool On-One il Pompino single speed. This one had flat handlebars. I think most have road bars don't they? Anyway, its a good thing it was too big for me. I don't need to spend $500 on a bike.

I built one up for a friend with a nexus 8spd hub and flat bars. Nice bike.

I'm just trying to goad one of you into buying it so they'll think they have a good thing going and stock some more. It was the only On-One in the shop.

Italian to English.

'Pompino'.

Hee hee. Wonder how many you'd see flying over them Tuscan hills?

On-Ones, that is.

When I go to the U, it's always because of a tennis tournament at the Baseline. So, I always hang-out in Dinky Town. I only saw the usual lot of students on bikes. I did make it over to the Hub bike co-op on Saturday to troll for used frames. Got a stiff neck looking at the ceiling.
