Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Cheap flights to NYC for Monster Track

Sorry to start a whole new thread but ...

I procrastinated booking my flight out there until today because, well I'm a procrastinator. But finally such irresponsible behavior has paid off because ... if you book a flight with ATA out of Midway in Chicago by tomorrow Feb. 6th you can get a crazy deal like I did ... $135 with tax.

$50 each way on ATA. Each airline is a bit different. Direct shipping is usually much cheaper unless you can convince someone that it's not a bike then it's free!

FWIW, I'm planning on taking Amtrak out to NY that weekend. It's too early in the game for the discount fares to be posted for March, but you can go from Chicago Union Station to NY Penn Station for ~$110 (regular fare is ~$150).

Obviously, not the best deal if you can't plan for a pretty long trip, but I'm pretty sure that bikes are an easy $10 each way, with the (hypothetical, at least) attraction of being able to bike to and from each station.

ATA is the worst airline I've ever been on. Be extra careful with your bike.

What shops are any of you planning on shipping your bikes to? Is Trackstar all "booked up" as it were? I figure since I work in a shop here in Ohio, it'd be least expensive (assuming I'm flying) to snag a box and ship for $25-30 each way rather than flying with it and assuming baggage handlers won't total my bike...

To race, or to drink and sleep through? Because I haven't decided yet myself; could go either way.

i don't have any need to measure my cock at this point (i know how long it is already), but I'd still like to do the race. i wouldn't win, but i could do decently well (as long as i don't get totally ****ing lost, which is likely). i've not ridden in nyc before, so it'll be fun to just ride around, even if i don't want to bust ass. i definitely don't want to sleep through it, but i plan on partying extremely ****ing hard. if it means that i am vomitting all the next day, so be it. fun will be had, whether or not it involves racing competitively.

I feel similarly.

Is there a source of info other than

http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3vsmk/m...ack/index.html

which (as of yet) doesn't have much?

I just bought one. $148 US including shipping is a steal. Thanks for the heads up!
Man, I just spent a lot of dough today, and it's not even noon and I haven't paid
the mortgage yet. D'oh!

Like Salome said, come out to Chicago for some of the stages. Stage 6 The Stairmaster is held at night and should be a freaking blast!

Yeah, what Salome said. There is not a ton of crucial info on the site for a few reasons.

Originally this event was for NY messers with fix/no brake. All the info was passed on the street with flyers and word of mouth.

As the phenomenon grows more and more heads make it out each year. Don't sweat if you don't know the start/route just yet, only one guy is responsible for that this year. If you are in NY on March 2,3, or 4 you will be able to figure where it's at.

And all you kids who are concerned about someone measuring your peepee, you are welcome at this event whether you are there to ride, pose, drink, dance, etc.

Just don't compete with a brake! Last year a few slipped thru and that is the original foundation of this ride. NO BRAKES.
