Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

UNofficial Chicago bar crawl thread (March 3rd)

I could have kept kicking this thread, but i thought I would start a new one instead. I will be holding a pub crawl/bar hop/velo-draught in my own honor March 3rd to celebrate my newfound ability to purchase and drink alcohol legally in a semi-public setting.

The meetup will occur in wicker park, by the swingset at around 8. As I haven't been to too many bars in my life, a certain degree of route planning from other attendees would be appreciated. Everybody and their mother is welcome, but if they don't have a bike, I hope they can run real fast.

i would love to celebrate your legal public drunkeness but i'll be on a train to Monstertrack.

If i were coming i would suggest stopping by the California Clipper for a whiskey on the rocks.

Kill it, Evan. I'll be drooling on schloe's shoulder...the Clipper's a good call, and you should hit the Rainbo, no matter what anyone says (welcome to true Chicago hipsterdom).

Yeah i considered the thursday or wednesday, but that would lose out all the working types (which is everyone, almost). I had a feeling there would be a lot of people going to monster track. Or at least 4.

I will be riding my bike to bars that entire week, so let me know if you guys are out riding around before you leave for the rotten apple.

Rainblo and Clippers are definitely on the list. I was thinking about goose island too, I love their beers, but it was pretty 'spensive last time I went.

Goose Island has a Chicago Bike Federation discount. 10% off.

You can definitely count on a drink on me sometime that week.

I'm in. how about the innertown pub, beachwood, club foot? those were my favourite dives in that hood. I'm not opposed to inching our way north too, since I live in andersonville.

bumps.

I am not opposed to inching north either. What was that bar we tried to go to last time I went on a ride with you guys? Where was that at?

And I'll be there rain or dark, but the ratio of sitting and drinking versus riding around will sway more to the sitting side of things with each inch falling of precipitation.

I'm down -- although it would be really cool if someone from Hyde Park wanted to tool back down the lakefront with me late late (read: drunk) at the end of the night. That ride spooks me a bit, ever since a cyclist got hit over the head with a pipe down there last summer. I love my south side, but there are some motherfunking fools down here, too!

I don't know if anybody will be going that far south, but I'd certainly be with you most of the way to the lakefront.

So, bumping this back to the top, this is stilll on, everybody get ready to get your ride and your drink on. The clipper is a definite, you guys can sort out the other places.

If I'm thinking of the time you're thinking of, we were trying to go to the Hop Leaf. Where you should definitely go. Plus it's far from the other places so you'll have a proper ride.

So is this tomorrow night? Meaning Friday?

The swingset in the park is the official spot. You can call me if you're lost / late or if I appear to be lost / late. I think 30 minutes should be ample time for to get from roosevelt to north ave, but I am riding brakeless.

my number is three one two thirty-four three fourteen two seven.

Is the plan Clipper first?
I would be interested, but doubt I will be up from hyde park till 9ish. If the plan is Clipper First I will just meet up there (though don't wait for me, in the event I get stuck on the south side)
