I'm coming to your town!

Sooner if you live in the North or West, later in the South and East. In two months my gf and I are quitting our jobs(just gave notice this week!) selling or storing our stuff, leaving the appartment, and going on a year-long US bike tour. The first part of the route goes up through Michigan, West through the UP, across N. Wisconsin to the Twin Cities, across SD, Wyoming, ect. to the coast. The specifics will be determined as we go, but this is an open invitation to ride a day or two with us, buy us a beer when we stop through, or extend any hospitality along the way. We're compiling a list of people that we know, would like to visit, or who have offered their couch or floor space, so PM me if you fit into any of those catagories. I started a blog to which we will be posting photos and travel journals, but I intend to continue posting on BF as well.

This is still a little ways off and I was planning on saving the news for later, but I figure that knowing where people are will add in the planning process.

I've been sitting in the office all year, thinking about this plan. It is almost here.

Fantastic! I've been planning my own little tour after I found out I can take un-paid leave if I want. 3 weeks of vacay doesn't give you enough time to really get "out there"...

[edit]
If you're passing though to visit the fam, you know there will be beer waiting for ya'll.

You've probably done your homework but if you can beg, borrrow or steal some of the adventure cycling maps. They're really decent for bike touring with; much easier to deal with than a map.
https://www.adv-cycling.org/routes/maps.cfm

Really good if you don't know anything about the area or are going a long way between two cities. But maybe all the BF folks will make it all immaterial by having someone join you all the way.

I'm dead jealous, sounds like a great trip.

go to couchsurfing.com for places to crash along the way. It's a great idea and it seems to be catching on.

Andrea just joined adv-cycling, so hopfully we will be getting our first set of maps soon. It would be great if we could ride with BF posters along the way, you are certainly welcome.

I'm glad you mentioned that! When we leave Chicago, you are all welcome to ride to the dunes and camp with us the first night. It'll be a Saturday, and I'll give advance notice when we pick a date.

Welp I'll be moving into an apartment this summer so if you end up in the lovely Richmond, VA - there's a nice place for you to stay - and a bunch of people around here always looking for an excuse to ride

That'll be so much fun. It'll be hard seeing you guys ride off
while we all go back to sitting in front of our computers.
hmmm...maybe you'll pick up a few stragglers along the way?
