god, i didn't realize how long this was! suggest some good stems (for a 1" threaded headset) at a reasonable price!

I take it you just got it in the mail? It's a very, very good stem - a bit flexy at full extension, but it's very well-made. It sounds like you won't be using the full extension and want something with a shorter quill, that will therefore be lighter. If weight ain't the problem, then stick with the Technomic. Unless your fork's steerer tube isn't long enough (not a problem for me).

The Standard Technomic has a 225mm quill. The Technomic Deluxe (sold by Rivendell) has a 190mm quill - 3.5cm shorter.
There are lots of quill stems for 1" steerers to be had on eBay, if you want something shorter. Just make sure you get the correct clamp diameter.
Nashbar and Performance have stuff too, although it's not usually of great quality (I've tried quill stems from both of them). Nashbar sometimes has NOS stems. Modolo stems have a reputation for being flexy.

Take a look at my Raleigh (picture linked in my sig) for a view of a 130mm-extension Technomic at nearly-max-height. Helps a big guy use a not-so-big frame.

Get a hacksaw and cut it shorter. Put it on a grinder and get the angle just right. Use a bolt from a shorter stem. Presto.

if you do this, be really really ****ing careful. that angle is pretty goddamn important.

Totally not worth it. If you're that much of a weight weenie, buy a new stem.

I just bought a Nitto Pearl off eBay. It's a reallly nice looking stem. The style is very similar to the Nitto Jaguar except not as steep.

it was the only negative angle stem i could order from the QBP (at the shop) and i didn't realize how long it was. i'll probably go with it at first, and then piece it on eBay if i don't like it. thanks though.

QBP definitly sells the Dynamic as well. Return it and order the one you want.

i thought the dynamic in the QBP didn't have the proper diameter for the bars (25.4) though. i was looking at those.

If they have 26 you can shim it.

does nitto make a 26.0 stem?

I have a technomic. I do not use it. If someone needs one let me know.

If you want that stem, buy the Nitto shim- it is prescision steel and works perfect with their stems and bars. It also costs $12(ouch).

technomic also comes in 26.0, I've got them on 3 of my bikes.
