Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Helvetica - Thanks man for that link, I am a big Zappa fan and never saw that before. I can't think of the tune now but I swear he incorporates a bicycle wheel in one of his pieces. I always wondered what this one sound was and after hearing this recording that has got to be it.

Steve Allen used to have people do stuff that on his shows all the time, back in the day. Smashing ice with hammers to music, etc. Wouldn't be surprised if it was his, rather than Zappa's idea. Like humanconger said, way ahead of its time.

zappa was always ahead of the times. he even died of a disease that was relatively unheard of at the time, and now it's a requisite test for men over 35.
