put some BMX pegs on your fixed

You know what it's like. You have a lot of friends who don't ride bikes, and you both need to get somewhere nearby. If one person bikes it, it would take 3 mins. If the other walks, it takes 15. So, i propose putting some BMX pegs on the back wheel.

My bike has Phil wood HF hubs which are laced to deep section rims (36H). I don't think the wheel will **** up, as long as i don't put a heavy b*stard on there(just petite ladies lol). Realistically, the worst that will happen is more flat tyres.

The one problem i forsee is the way Phil HF's are bolted on to the frame, with allen-key nuts. This shouldn't be a problem to change, however. The fact that it's a track wheel with HF's and deep rims make me more inclined to do this, as a shorter spoke = stronger wheel.

So, anyone done this? I will post some pics tomorrow once i do this.

Thanks in advance for your put-downs!

you don't take it with you everywhere, ya silly goose!

think of them as really comfortable pegs for your rider, that easily detach and stay at home for weight savings when you aren't hauling people

Wouldn't having a rider on your pegs severely limit your ability unweight the rear wheel, leaving you with backpressure and a front brake as your only stopping options?

Besides those being the only ways to stop a fixed wheel anyway, who cares? This will be for a 5 minute ride, braking only once or twice the whole way. I think the rear wheel can handle such forces, what do you all think about that?

go ahead.

pretty sure you're going to ruin the axles.

they weren't built for that.

I wouldnt risk another 100lbs on my rear wheel on crappy streets, something would have to give.

You could get a grocery list and ride, shop, and be back at least twice as fast or you could just walk to the store with said lady and just enjoy the time... hint hint. With obvious options like those I think its clear you just want to ride around with her on your bike. Have fun with it.
