The sweater is merino, not cashmere and it still was 425. But 425 is pretty good for a high end Ralphy Lauren sweater.

As established in an earlier thread, merino is merino, which is plenty wicking on its own...go pick up an argyle turtleneck at Marshalls for $20.

the swedes know what they're doing. i wear their mid-layer sweater. it's a terry-knitted merino material that traps a lot of air inbetween your layers. polo neck, full length zipper, and holes in the cuffs for your thumbs to stick out so the sleeves don't ride up. it's also a bit longer in the back to cover your butt. damn warm, and it's got me through a lot of toronto winters.

wow.. the canadian site has em for 50% off (about 70 canuck bucks).. they were over $100 in tokyo 4 years ago.

i've got the 400g/m. it survived several nasty spills. there's a hole in one of the shoulders and fraying at the cuffs which were my fault. i think i'm going to get another one..wished they had more colours though.

That Swedish sweater sounds very similiar to one i bought through The Sportsmans guide for less than 30 bucks.(Also check cheaper than dirt).I bought merino wool underwear from Rivendell for $100. top and bottom with no logo . I think they are still around the same price, probably only slightly higher now than when i bought them.I know surplus may not be chic but the price is right.Or check out Rivendell

My friend is a professional photographer and he usually does photos for gear shops and companies. He walked into the ibex office hoping to get some work from them, and at the time they were discussing their marketing strategy and they wanted to take pictures of people who were "the core" outdoorsman with the clothing on. My friend at the time had a long beard and was very unkept. When he walked into the office they were like "YOU! YOU are the core! be a model for us!" and he was like "no no I'm just a photographer". They got him to model the clothing, now he is in the magazine and on the tags, pretty sweet.
