detained after stopping for a friend
A friend and i were runnin a short sprint back from seven eleven, practicing drafting (sprint about 1 mile) he was in front and accidently clipped my front tire at speed (about 25 mph) I have a couple strawberrys but nothing serious unfortunately in front of us about to blocks down was a cop, who saw my head light "tumble" I got back up, and yelled, cop, hoping that he'd sprint the block to my house and we'd be fine, no such luck. Cop pulls him over and i ride up and stop cause he's a friend instead of leaving him. What happens is amazing. The cop asks me if i have anything illegal on me, I don't, end of story. He asks me if he can search me. I say "i'm going to exercise my right to not be searched even though i understand it gives you an even more probable cause, i have nothing on my person" then i ask for his badge number because in all reality, i want to know. So i spend 45 minutes "detained" being told that i'm on every drug known to man. Seriously my heart rate isn't high cause i just fell at 25 mph or because i'm being thrown around by a cop, it must be drugs. I filed a complaint, well kind've apparently it's routine procedure to take the sober guy, and raise hell with him. My friend, spun etc. Left alone. From what i can tell it's procedure to bust the guy who knows his rights. And beyond which, sure the cop saw my lights go down, no question if i'm ok, because i'm on drugs or something. Sorry, just bitter.

I applaud you for exercising your rights and refusing a search. Good job getting his badge number. I agree keep filing a complaint until something gets done. If you think your rights were violated in any way then I suggest you hire a lawyer, at which point it would be wise to cease discussing any of the details here.

File a complaint. Nothing may get done now, but the paper trail will build up. Eventually it may catch up with him.

You yelled "cop". Causes suspicion. Why do that?
If you were doing nothing illegal before the fall, yelling "cop" caused the stop. I'd stop you too.

yeah, why did you yell cop and hope your friend would sprint to your house. that's just weird. i don't think it's illegal to fall down on your bike.

i'm confused as to which "law" you'd broken and how exactly you were "detained."
if a cop starts lecturing you but does not place you under arrest you are allowed to leave.
when you're not doing anything wrong, don't yell "cop"
you're allowed to ride your bike fast, if you fall you're allowed to get back up and keep going. if you get "detained" your first question should be "is there a problem officer" and if that doesn't lead to a direct accusation of guilt then you say "sorry, but i'm in a rush, you have a great day."
edit: also, don't ever admit that the officer has probable cause (even if he does, and he didn't). in fact, don't even bring up constitutional law, it's basically equivalent to calling the guy a ******. know the laws, act on your rights and if they get violated then keep your eyes open and your mouth shut and you might be able to nail the guy.

Just let it go. Cops can be dicks sometimes. It's not worth your time to take this as far as it can go. File a complaint and let it go.

Something tells me theres a bit more to the story, but christ it's not like you were subjected to a beating or something. Suck it up and move on with life.
Or go post in the AnS forum, it needs a new thread.

This story is completely illogical--your side and the cop's, but also your diction.
And it doesn't actually sound like you were detained.
People are stupid. Cops are people. Don't get into situations with stupid people, especially those who are cops.

And if you hadn't jumped onto this whole fixed gear craze, you wouldn't have any wheels to overlap.
Moral of this story, jumping on bandwagons causes you to get detained/arrested for no particular reason. Cops hate popular stuff.

If I were a cop and I saw two people on bikes hauling ass close together get in an accident I'd stop to check on them... However if the guy who just ate **** jumped up and yelled "COP!" and began to sprint home I'd assume they were criminals.
I always say this to people. "Cops don't know you. If you exhibit any of the traits of a criminal you will be treated as one. Cops deal with people with weapons on them and have to be cautious because to them, its statistics. Its going to happen sometime and they need to be ready by treating people sternly who exhibit criminal traits.... Like yelling "Cop!"

So, you are angry because you were searched (or not, not clear) by a cop, while your friend who was with you and was actually high on meth, was let go?
Well, I can see how that injustice would bother you. You should report your friend ASAP and get this tort rectified!
