Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Are your pants permanently grease stained?

From picking up your bike, carrying it in and out of the house, lifting it onto bike racks, moving it to other spots within the house, up and down stairs. And also messing around with all the greasy tools, spare parts, tyres, bike racks, etc. I canít keep my clothes clean. Can you?

Almost all of my clothes are black. The grease helps keep them that way

one thing that helps get grease out is butter. i know it
sounds messed up, but non-salted butter. just rub it into
the grease stain, get the area well coated and wash as
usual. i've tried this before and it doesn't work 100%, but
it helps alot, it gets almost all of the grease away. this
is because the grease bonds with the butter fat which is
for some reason easier to wash away than the grease itself.

WARNING: i have tried this only on blue jeans and it worked
fine. a friend of mine tried it on a light grey t-shirt and said
the grease was gone, but a very light stain from the butter
remained.

i have a lot of grease stains on my pants. lestoil works wonders to get the stains out. use the lestoil before you wash them, because it smells kind of funky.

one day, as i was just leaving my place, i noticed a quarter sized black stain on my knee. i used some dishsoap, and it came right out.

google "laundry grease" and you'll come up with a ton of suggestions. coke, rubbing alcohol, etc. surprisingly, dishsoap is also recommended. i can also obviously vouch for it. it smells nice, too. i didn't even wash my jeans after. just rubbed in a small drop of dishsoap, rubbed for a second, and tried to get as much of the soap off as i could with a wet rag. the stain was gone and i could wear my jeans for another week because they had a hint of something good smelling.

no, mostly because they're black, or cuz i don't have a reason to carry my bike much and my pants are always rolled up.

Sounds like you're getting down and dirty with your bike.

I only ride in one pair of jeans, and one pair of dickies, that way I'm not ruining all my clothes.

Goddamned right. What else can I ride for hours at a time without being asked "Are you done yet?" S'aight though all my clothes are black anyways. I figure the grease just makes them a little slicker for when I hit the pavement.

Hehe, if *someone* is asking "Are you done yet?" perhaps you aren't doing it right? /grin

Hehehe, indeed, however shouldn't you be questioning my ability to ride for hours more?
