Avenir Chain Lock

I tried doing a search, but couldn't turn much up on these.

One of the LBS's here has these on sale for -really- cheap, but i'm not quite sure what the catch is? It's the type with the mini-mini u-lock as the lock. Don't remember exactly, but I think it might have been the circular key? Is that a bic-able lock, anyone know?

Trying to figure out if I should pick one up or not, but if it's on sale because it's a POS then I don't feel like wasting my money.

Looks like it uses Tubular keys so I would recommend against it. Or just get the chain. Almost all tubular locks can be impressioned (bic'ed, if the diameter is the right size) so I wouldn't consider them secure.

Thanks. That's what I figured once I realized it was the circular key.

Would it be worth it to get the chain and replace the lock with like a disk-lock?
They're selling these things for $10, seems like it's too hard to pass up, unless it's just a crappy chain too.

It's hard to tell if it's a good chain or not and I've never heard of the company. It looks like standard square link security chain.

Make of that what you will.

I have one of those and its not a bad lock and chain at all. I don't live in a really high risk area so I am not too concerned with how well it works. I like it for the idea that the lock and chain look hardcore so anyone who walks by will think twice and move on. I got it after I found chip marks all over a ulock I had where I assume someone had tried to break it open. I also recently picked up a molly lock to add some piece of mind. I guess it really depends on what your needs are. I do reccomend though that you take the Avenir labeled cover off so people don't know its not a kryptonite.
