Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I could post this in the track forum, but I'd be preaching to the choir.
I'm really talking to people just like me:

a. have track bike
b. raced in a few alleycats this year, didn't get DFL, and had a great time
c. emotionally ready to wear tight shorts

As you may know, Chicagoland is well situated among two Velodromes, Northbrook and Kenosha, both of which are easily accessible by Metra.
Northbrook has weekly clinics starting May 8th, and both racing seasons start in earnest around June 1st.

So, who's in?

^ [165], salome, ira in chi @ northbrook last summer

I'll be there with xxx. Although I am focusing 99% on road racing this season I do plan on doing track for giggles.

April 8? I thought it was May. Either way, I spent the day so far:

(a) gluing my tubulars
(b) talking to Marcus about the clinics

I'm excited.

I was talking toa few others, and it still is foggy, are you required to have a track bike? or can you run a conversion sans brakes?

cause I'm most certainly interested.

i'm sure riding a conversion on informal days like next weekend is OK. the track is open all the time, so as far as they are concerned you could ride a cruiser. Clinics and races on the other hand, are probably trackbike required.

aah, it would still be pretty cool to check it out, if you guys ever decide to hit up the track on the informal days, let me know, I'm in.

That is until I get a track frame in june, then my slowness goes legit.

Next saturday. I am going.

I am definitely taking the train because the metra station is a lot closer to my house than wicker park.

This is a little advance, but Hawk Wheels was talking about a race sometime this summer that is non-trackie friendly? Details?

efarrar - careful how you paraphrase:

Squid explained it as a way to give out tix to the CMWC in Oz. Anyone can race it up, but only messengers will be in contention for the tix to Oz. Complete fairness really. Make sense to me.
There may be some goods for overall placings too.
Either way, a good time in three cities: NYC (Kissena), Chicago (ERV), and LA (Encino).
