recommend me a clipless pedal
 

I am thinking about getting these shoes...also for those who ride lake shoes do their shoes run big/small or anything like that

I have some clipless pedals but from what I've heard they are not so nice and prone to problems

anyone have recommendations for new pedals to buy? I don't have a ton of money but I am looking for something that is pretty decent id like to spend less than 100 for the pedals

personaly i havent had any problem with SPD type pedals on my fixed gear, but it sounds like i'm the exception. ATAC's are the jam if you're going with mountain shoes i hear

I wouldn't have a problem using SPDs but I think those pedals that I have are cheap wellgos and I have heard of problems about wellgo clipless pedals especially the cheap ones

lakes run pretty true to size. i wear an 11.5 in US, so a 45 fits well with lake shoes and also answer shoes.

time ATAC pedals are amazing, extremely durable for serious abusive MTBing. but if these pedals will be strictly road use, i imagine SPDs will be fine.

i've never bought a pair of lakes. I don't like their lace+velcro closure, plus they're soooooooo heavy.

Those coda pedals are pretty awful. I had a pair years ago, and the release was sketchy at best. If you want to run SPDs get the real deal.

I run cheap Nashbar SPDs. They are not great, but I feel safe and have used them for many, many years.

I swear by them and I'm sure a lot of other fixie riders will agree. I've been using them for about a little over a year and a half, LOVE 'EM!!!!!!!!!! I'm using three different shoes with them, so I can say that the cleats can fit in more than one type of shoe. I'm using them with two different kinds of Nikes, the Alpin II and a pair of some cheaper road shoes. $145 and $89 for the latter respectively. And a pair of really nice Shimano shoes (can't remember the model, I'm not at home), priced at about $110. That's pretty much how I recognize shoes, by their cost. Anyway, I kinda got off track, but back to the Eggbeaters, like I was saying, is my all-time favorite. The only thing you really have to replace, if need be, are the cleats themselves. They seem (the pedals) pretty indestructible, what more can I say about them.......

ditto on eggbeaters. great look, sturdy, easy to maintain (see: no maintenance except a little grease here and there).

i have a pair of the sl's on my good bike, and a pair of the c's on my beater/work bike. my sl's came with in a kit with a pair of answer's that i really enjoy. they are without a doubt cheap, but i think they look as good if not better than the pearl izumi's they are copying.

one things to note: eggbeaters will eat up your shoes. the two metal clasps dig in behind the cleat and eventually create enough of a gap that you have to use the shims to keep it tight. that said, this could just be the cheap shoe again. i am about to order a pari of sidi dominators. 200 dollar bike shoes here i come!

I have never noticed my eggbeaters doing anything to my shoes.

I am rather fond of the eggbeaters as well. The one iffy thing about them is the float. There is a lot of it (even on the smaller float cleat arrangement). It is not bad, its just something to get used to. On longer rides I switch out for a set of Shimano road spd-sl pedals to get a firmer feel.

I actually kind of like the free feeling for around town. They are easy to get out of in a pinch.

not to knock eggbeaters (love em to death), but they do wear on your shoes.

your average track biker doesn't go dogging mountain sides, but mtb review site is a great resource for discovering the "longevity" of your parts, haha. have fun.

Ditto on the floatation. Like I said in my earlier post,I have 3 pairs of shoes with Eggbeater cleats, so the only thing I notice is just normal wear and tear of the shoes themselves.

+1. They are nice, cheap, and reliable. I cut my teeth on SPD's 6 years ago, and haven't had reason to change yet.

I've had one pair for several years now and switch them back and forth between my cross bike, fixed gear street bike (I ride dura ace road petals on the track bike) and single speed mt. bike. They are still in great condition and work excellent, the cleat doesn't rub on the floor (in my sidis). They are the shiznit

well, you know my vote. i have extra cleats and two sets of ATAC's. get some shoes, and i'll let you try ATAC's and SPD's out.

I have atacs on two bikes, and just bought another set for the new bike. Never come unclipped by accident, easy in and out (not my experience with spds, but maybe I didn't adjust the release right... best thing about atacs is nothing to adjust). Cleats seem to wear long too, I've only worn out one pair so far.

I only have the plastic ones (oops, "composite") and they do get a little beat up looking, but it don't matter. And I've yet to repack the bearings on either pair, still smooth after a couple years on one pair and a year on the other, both pairs bought used.

Eggbeaters just look so... unsubstantial. Big rider here though, so that's in the eye of the beholder. I just bought my first plastic (oops, I mean "carbon fiber") seatpost, so maybe I'll be converted on the silly light factor and take back that last statement.
