Fooling around at Ocean Beach, I wondered if one could trackstand in the sand. You can. Until the wheels sink, that is.

Sand doesn't behave like pavement :) (and cameras are fast).

spud 03-19-06 07:12 PM

i'll give you that.

FlippingHades 03-19-06 07:14 PM

That was also right before I fell over, with the front rim submerged in wet sand. It tended to hold up well for 20 seconds and then give way all at once.

jitenshako 03-19-06 07:35 PM

that must be awesome way to polish those rims. gotta go give it a try.

I used to jog at the beach at night. I never trusted locking my bike up along the coast so I'd take it with me down to the water. I'd turn both front and back lights on and then run 1000 feet each way using the brightness of the lights as a sort of middle point.

One night the waves grabbed it and threw it back onto the shore all soaked with sand. A few people were standing around wondering where the hell it came from.

Impressive. Now what kind of speed can you get on the sand? I have heard of cars getting up towards 200MPH. Corrosion problems  ?

Terror_in_pink 03-20-06 06:38 PM

trackstanding on loose grounds is a biznatch.

FlippingHades 03-20-06 06:49 PM

Yeah it is, but staying up for 20 seconds felt like almost as much of an accomplishment as the first time I rode home without touching a foot to the ground :D

jayrooney 03-20-06 08:11 PM

this reminds me of bill murray in life aquatic.

DoshKel 03-20-06 08:52 PM

Nope, that wasn't me - I ride a custom painted orange & black Nishiki with full fenders and a front rack. But my wife and I did cruise right past the kickball game on our way to Ocean Beach -- I slowed down to marvel at it -- I haven't played kickball since I was a kid! It looked like a blast.
