This happened right in front of me, it was pretty grisly. He's from Chicago, but I'll leave other i.d. info out. Right before it happened, people around him told him the spokecard could wait. And then in a split second he was over the bars and head first into the street. In the immediate aftermath, the attention was to the gash in his head and the blood liberally flowing from it. But his hand was pretty messed up too--I heard he broke three spokes, pulling the nipples through them rim. Those on the scene were really good and alert in providing immediate attention and calling an ambulance. Despite (or maybe due in part to) this Darwin-award worthy moment, the race was still a great time, and Chicago was definitely there.

Anyone know if the results are posted?

So, he was trying to put the spokecard in or pull it out?

Pull it out. It had become partially dislodged from the spokes and it was slapping against his fork, ala a baseball card affixed to a seatstay with a clothespin. While riding, at speed, he leaned over and tried to grab it.

argh. the rider in question is a good friend of mine. i just talked to him on the phone, and he's doing fine and is in good spirits.

as i was not in mke for said race, i can neither pass judgment, nor regale you all with tales of alcohol consumed and morals debauched. i can say that i got a drunken voice mail saying said rider was in the hospital with a head injury, then raucous laughter and excessive party noise for a solid two minutes. i thought it was just a joke. what really is funny are the pictures, though...

Here are the official results from the MMI 5. If you don't see your name in the list, it means you probably didn't complete all of the mandatory stops. Congrats to all of the winners!

PM me if you can't figure out how to steal them.

Nothing spectacular as I was riding my ass off to make up for the flat and too busy drinking to shoot after the race. And just ******** at the Riverhorse.

Here are some pics that I took.

I'm a little confused about the scoring because I think that with all the beers I drank I would have ended up a little better, but maybe I forgot to mark something down on my manifest. Either way, I got pretty drunk. I don't think I made it over to the trackstand/skid comp, how did that turn out?

The scoring worked like this: You had to complete ALL mandatory stops in order to submit your manifest for scoring. The Wheel of Fortune stop was worth as many points as you got when you spun the wheel. Bowling was worth 1/2 as many points as the number of pins you knocked down (9 pins = 4.5 points, etc.). Bonus balloons were also were 1/2 as many points as what their respective stops were worth. The point value for each bonus stop was the approximate distance (rounded to the nearest 1/2 point) by the distance (in miles, as determined by maps.google.com) from the starting point (224 A West Wells) to that stop. A rider was awarded one point for every beer they consumed. Being that we're not total hard asses, we accepted manifests that came in after the deadline (until 3:45) but deducted 1 point for every minute that the rider was late, hence the negative points/lower scores than you might have expected.

We tried our hardest to make things as clear as possible (color maps, contact #s, etc.) and to avoid errors in the scoring (spreadsheet with auto calculations, etc.) but nevertheless, we're not perfect. Whenever you have a manifest that requires the racers to answer questions about each stop, people are bound to guess on some of them. We used our best judgement but I'm sure we made some mistakes and some people probably got points they didn't deserve where as others probably lost points they legitimately earned. That's life on the alleycat scene.

Overall, people seemed to be pleased with the race and we had a great time putting it on. It was great fun to hang out with so many people that enjoy cycling as much as I do. Thanks to everybody that showed up and spent the day with us. See you at MMI6!!!!

Skid comp was us getting kicked out of the art museum and then getting kicked out of the parking garage. We did get in a track stand comp though. This smelly, outta town dood totally took it down.
