Backwards circles and eating poo

Whenever I ride most anywhere, when I reach my destination, I stop, trackstand for a second, and try to go backwards. Before tonight, I was only able to get about 90 degrees of crank rotation. TOnight, I went for it, got to a full 180 degree crank rotation, fell and ate poo. AND got my beer in my bag all fizzy. How does one learn to do backwards circles? Is it reasonably possible to go backwards WITHOUT circling (or without the wheel turned)? Or can you sort of inch your way backwards with the wheel turned left, and then right?

yumm, scat!

(serously though) I read that 63xc link, and it seems that you need to be trackstanding really well on both sides. Once I learned my right side, I neglected my left. Prolly should figure that out before I try the "control point" technique.

not totally true. I tried trackstanding for a while with no sucess before I went online and realized that I had to turn the bars and stand up. learning curve can be less steep for some things. what you can't do is learn how to be confident in traffic, or how to maintain a proper posenger scowl.

if you dont listen to Paul Wall, you will never be able to ride in backwards circles, maybe if you give that Slim Thug album you will be able to after awhile. Paul Wall is the key.

Replace Paul Wall with E-40 and you'll be bustin b/w circles left, right and figure eight style. Just sayin.

standng there at a stoplight with your bum all in the air and a self-satisfied smirk on your face is so silly. no one notices or cares that hey! you have both feet on your pedals! and instead you look like a 2 year-old who just **** this pants and likes the warm gooey feeling or a housecat in heat

and two people trackstanding together is so furtively fey and gross it gives me the jibbers

I trackstand at lights because it's fun and I can get going quicker when the light changes.

Every once in a while, I get some looks of appreciation, which doesn't hurt, either. Twice my adorers were about 4-year-old children, one last autumn and one last week ... both walked by me with their parents, and their head was turning as they walked on... couldn't get the eyes off the biker who was miraculously still without putting a foot down. Priceless looks of amazement.

But frankly, I don't give a crap if people don't give a crap what I'm doing on my bike. Riding a bike of any description is so deeply uncool here that it would be hard to explain it as being posing...

But the hand-holding trackstand is so awesome, I'm surprised you don't see more people do it. BONUS: even freewheeled folk can do it with little practice.
