Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

3Rensho = "Three round balls" ?

That's what it kind of sounds like in Mandarin Chinese (san ren cho)...

I put it together when I saw the 3 balls on the headtube.

Is that what its supposed to mean?

I was told by the guys on the Yellow Jersey club team in Madison (years ago when I was in college) that it also has an element of luck or good fortune to it. It should be translated to something like "three fortunate victories" or "three lucky wins". I was told that the number 3 was like our "lucky 7" in Japan, so the meaning was sort of implied rather than overt. Either I was a noob and totally snowed, or I actually know something. I don't know which it is....

I think it's 3 lucky wins, though in the earned good fortune sense, not incidental luck.

im japanese. rensho means "continuous/in a circle (2nd character) winner/to win (3rd character)" first letter is the number 3 character. For example, "Nanarensho, Shichirensho, 7rensho" = Lance Armstrong

literal meaning is three consective wins, but i have a feeling it comes from a rule in keirin (some bets are based on san-ren-sho). my dad knows more about this and i'll ask him this weekend if i end up not going out of town.

I think Specialized should change their name to "Three Consecutive Wins". I admit to hating Specialized mostly because of the stupid name "Three Consecutive Wins" would be so much better. And then maybe I could get some cash for that old kid's rockhopper in the garage.
