Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Bio-pace

I've heard that a bio-pace chainring on a single sppeeed or fixed gear can be done. (w/o a chain tensioner)

but how, why, and wtf would?

Bio-pace is n00b

how? the same way as you would with a normal ring. it works fine.

why? it was a bit better for mashing a relatively high gear when I tried it.
or you could refer to this

Actually, since it's Sheldon Brown that's doing it, the correct statement would be: "Bio-pace is l33t".

I re-read Sheldon's article. There's a tab on the chainwheel that's supposed to be hidden by the right-side crank arm. Mine was reassembled best fit, and the tab is forward of the crank.

I'll have to disassemble and re-fit per Sheldon's observations, to see if A) it fits and 2) if I can feel a difference.

I ride a 53t biopace with an 18t EAI cog for 77 gear inches.
I love it.

I adjust my chain tension for about 1/8" play at the tightest point, which gives me about 5/8" play at the loosest point.

Biopace has spoiled me.
I should probably buy another one as a backup for when I've worn out the one I have.
