repainting my 3rensho?

i recently scored a 3rensho kind of cheap, but it had a stuck seatpost. after going through most of sheldon brown's guide, i got deeper into the teens and just had to have it melted out. sooooooo now, i have a once beautiful 3rensho missing a good amount of paint.

i wondered if anyone had any suggestions about my current options? i stress current because i know painting services go in and out of fashion (stop doing bikes, etc. etc.) [hence my post rather than a search]. i was looking only to spend about $200. in addition, my frame was that aqua marine seen on many 3rensho; for extra points, anyone know of somewhere that might have such a color available?

https://www.velographicdecals.com/ can print up some decals for you, just put them over some powdercoating and then clearcoat it.

you should seriously consider spectrum powderworks. they're top notch. they can do stuff with powdercoat many can't even do with paint. a single color would probably be less than 200 there... but shipping...

Real, honest-to-goodness NOS 3Rensho decals are about $80 from Yellow Jersey, but they'll sell them for less to pro painters. Decals from Velo Graphics should be $40-60.

Did you score that one that was for sale in the For Sale forum? That thing was mighty nice.

And, of course, this thread is useless without pictures.

i paid yellow jersey $80 for decals (no, there is no discount for pro painters, i tried that, and spectrum bought them for me and paid the 80) and i paid spectrum powderworks ~$300 for strip, fix dents and dings, powder, decal install, and clearcoat.

i now know a cheaper source of decals. if you really have a frame and really are painting it, pm me.

don't cut corners, really.

Jamie,
Where/when the **** did you get a 3rensho? Didn't you just buy a complete bike off ebay?!
Also, I'm not sure how much he'd charge but you should ask Jasonsan.

i scored it on the for sale forum. it was beautiful, but the seatpost had layers of rust on it (and no one knew who long it was rusted / stuck. so the dudes at yj (who are knowledgable with 3rensho) burned the post out.

ok, believe me on this one. i did not buy the decals for just that reason- i asked spectrum to buy direct from YJ to get that discount. YJ said they had very few sheets of decals left and thus there is no more discount.

Oh, I wasn't doubting you. I remember how sketchy the whole process was for you - I guess this is just further evidence of that.

You should PM with the other decal hook up you mentioned... I'd like to have a set sitting around in case I ever need to get mine repainted.

Chimbly should have a whole other set of decals laying around straight from Japan. You didn't lose those did you?
