Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

That frame was the subject of a thread earlier.
I think people on here know them.

No idea what to search.
But the thread jist was people (myself included) questioning the logic of producing yet another black "cro-mo" track frame verse something new or different.

I like how their selling point is that riding a fixed gear frame will "show them that you're ballsy."

I emailed back and forth w/ Ernesto regarding availability of larger frames. Seems like a good guy and is enthusiastic about what he's doing, which is providing another inexpensive entry point into fixed gear cycling. I can't think of a single bad thing about that.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, there will also be brown available in addition to black. "Black Hole" and "Brown Star" are the names of the colors... I think I see a theme...

Ernesto is a mainstay on the mtbr.com singlespeed board. He's a fixture of the Singlespeed MTB scene. I got the impression that he's basically putting together this order of frames and stuff as a labor of love, because he wanted to get some bikes out there. He had a thread (not unlike Kogswell's) that asked people what they wanted in a fixed gear frame, and put together a bike based on that. This is it.

next 2 projects: rain beater, polo bike. next after that, i might just build up one of these frames. if i can score a cheaper one on ebay or Cl, it'll be a contest, but i like the sound of this dude/company.

That's a pretty good point.
I guess one can always zip-tie cables to the frame but one can't just drill a rear bridge for a brake.
So, it's set up MORE for brakeless but does give you the option of the rear brake.

Anybody else think this it is unneccesary, posturing and stupid:

"Drilled for a brake (if you need one)"

Like, uh, just cuz our frames have brake holes doesn't mean that we're not cool, like riding brakeless 52/13. Yeah. Did I mention that we use chrome bags and drink pbr?

Losers...

Say What?

Dude don't know much about fixed.

Check out the contradition. Similar, but not the same. Then never heard of them? WTF!

yeah...suicide hub on a mtb...something that's basically just for riding around in a small area while drinking a lot of pbr and swinging mallets around. like polo with ultra-beaters instead of horses...not something you really want a nice bike for.

SOMA Rush has a similar set-up. There are plenty of roadie types who have to have two brakes or want to run SS. However, most folks are going to be brakeless or running just a front brake. They probably don't care that the rear bridge is drilled but will care if theres cable guides ruining the lines.

Its a design compromise.

It also means you can splash out for some vintage Campagnolo cable clips

you're not supposed to use cables anymore. it's all about electromagnetic beams these days.
