I just put drops on my road bike, replacing some moustaches.. Chiefly because I couldn't stand the gooniness of the 'staches anymore. I had the drops around so it was a simple bit of brake-and-shifter shuffling to try it out..
Gol durnit, the moustaches were better. Better climbing, pretty aero ride on the hoods, overall better comfort. The only ***** is lanesplitting. I wish somebody made 'em in, like, 44cm.
My new plan is to try a Midge bar with cross levers, ditching my pitiful tektro road levers but keeping the barcons. Thus I can spend a healthy amount of time on the tops for city riding, but have the short drops for climbing and cruising. I wish they, too were shorter. I can hardly imagine rocking bars even wider than the 'staches.
I've always been a "cut 6" off each side of the bars" guy, even since my MTB days. It just feels less ungainly. My short risers on the fixie are the dodecahejam.
