Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Decals - I don't want 'em

As the title suggests, I'd like to get rid of my labels-decals, but they seem pretty stuck. Must one repaint one's bike or can they be easily removed?

Hmmm, not sure with that bike.
Well, 1) If when you run your finger over the decal, if you can feel the edge, then just use a hairdryer and your fingernail.
2) If you can't feel the edge of the decal, then it's probably under the clearcoat and there really isn't anything you can do without stripping the paint too.

Other than electrical tape, por supuesto.

EDIT: Also, my congratulations on your excellent grammar, Hyperrevue. About what make/model are we talking? is far superior to What make/model are we talking about?

HAha, I don't know if you're being serious or not, but not ending sentences in prepositions has just become a habit for me. The product of reading/editing articles all day.

They cannot be easily removed but they can be removed. Search the boards for Pista Decal Removal. You can cut the clearcoat around the decals and lift 'em up.

For example:
stripped chrome pista

[Edit: just realised that this would probably destroy your paint to so you'd have to strip the frame down in the decal areas and then repaint. Hardly worth it.]

Wont that method also strip the Lemond's paint?
That works for the Pista because there is no paint, correct?

except that with the pista when you remove the clearcoat, the paint stripper doesn't remove the chrome plating. Apply paint stripper to a painted frame, and you'll need to repaint it.

edit: whoa I'm slow. your edit showed up in my quote, but wasn't there when I read your message.
