Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Sorry if this is a dumb question; How do folks get back to where they started at the end of all this? Do they ride?

Ride, drive, crash on somebody's couch/floor. It's the vagrant lifestyle that draws so many folks.

as far as getting yourself and your bicycle back up to hartford after satutrday's distance...
while it would be best to have an additional friend to bring the car down, there is the possibility of us getting a box truck and a passenger van for the weekend. this is going to depend on how much of our own money we spend on ridiculous things, like liquor for checkpoints, etc.
if we do get the rental truck(s), we would probably ask for a small donation for the ride -- ass, grass, or cash, nobody rides for free...

while, yes, it is surprisingly short -- 30-35 miles, it will be a Saturday in July (hot), with parts on the Berlin Tpke (800,000 cars, all turning in front of you), featuring a 3.5 mile uphill (meriden), and will be followed in new haven by the bicycle bbq, trackstands, skids, crooked crank racing, midget cyclocross, and maybe even an impromptu ghettodrome session.

The Devil's Gear has offered us a bareknuckle track frameset as a prize. They're ordering several, so the winner will get their pick of size/color.
other sponsors are being worked on, but some of our past have been Bailey, Pabst, New England Brewing, Hope Gallery Tattoo, Kryptonite, etc.
Let me pick up all those names now -- i just don't want anybody thinkin' this is some two-bit 'round the block race.

I was wondering how you guy get sponsors. We have had a number of alley cats here but have not thought to get sponsorship. Are there certain companies that are more likely to sponsor alley cats?
