knee over pedal axle vs in front vs behind?
I've seen a lot of bike fitting guides that suggest that the knee(cap) should be directly over the pedal axle at a certain point in the rotation. Something about this doesn't sit well with me. Time trial bikes seem to be configured so that the knee would be in front of the pedal.
Could someone please explain the mechanics of knee positioning relative to the pedal axle? I'm not sure if certain positioning would be harmful to the knees. |
that fit system is very antiquated. The reasons as to why many modern fit systems disregard it are numerous and fill many many pages of text. I use it as a general guideline when fitting myself, and then adjust fore/aft as needed.
I think with TT and tri bikes, the aggressive aero position lowers the front of the body and pushes it forward so the rider is pushing down and back relative to a normal road bike. |
It would be fine if every person's feet were in the exact same proportion to the rest of their body.
