Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

NYC::: when does it end

For those riding fixed all year round
the past 6 months have been brutal in NYC
with constant wind (rarely blowing < 20 mph)

Riding regularly in PP is a nonstop mashing exercise
with what seems to be an omnipresent/directional headwind.
Nice way to get fit---for a masochist

Didn't seem as windy last year

I always feel like it's incredibily windy here. I think the super tall buildings create their own wind tunnels.

Man... I've always wondered how there can be a head wind ALL the way around that stinkin' track... no matter which way your going it's mashmashmashmash...

It's like when I go to work in the morning and hit a nasty headwind on the Manhatan Bridge... get outa work about 10 hours later... and hit that same friggin' head wind going the other way....

God hates me... I just know it...

I have been noticing the same thing in Central Park, you ride against it with the thought that the other way will be easy and bam! it never goes away.....

As much as i hate wind, ill take wind over rain any day. Anyways at least it is sunny for the most part, so the weather is not too crappy.

Happens this time of year every year since I've been riding Prospect Park. Constant head wind on a loop. Makes no sense.

I seem to get constant gusty headwinds here too, lately, on Long Island. Lately, I can't get much past 30MPH on any of the hills of my commute in either direction because of the wind. But fortunately the winds out here seem somewhat weaker than in the city with the lack of tall buildings and all that, so at least I'm not mashing hard on the flats.
