I live in a hole
I was in recycle a bicycle on Saturday in Dumbo looking to pick up a used ten speed for the SO. Within 20 minutes at least 4 people came in to get their bikes converted to a fixie. Now I do see plenty around, but damn.
Then the other day some randon guy stopped me and asked if I could build him a bike. I was tempted just to sell my ****ty conversion to him.
Why did I have to work this weekend and miss the races, damn.

I was down in Savannah, GA this weekend, and it was ridiculous how many people were on bikes. I saw a lot of people riding freewheeled single speed with no brakes too, which is just crazy. Although traffic down there was soo light and drivers really do seem to give bicycles the right of way, so i don't know if there's any real car vs. bike problems down there like in other cities.

you can't swing a dead cat in broooklyn (or substitute name of your metropolitan locale here) without hitting someone on a fixie.

im all for more people riding bikes, but i think the transit strike gave us a somewhat terrifying view of what woud happen if thousands more people suddenly began commuting by bike in NYC
