Philly -> NYC
I am planning on riding to NYC for the film festival next weekend. I currently know of 2 routes to take, one is the BCP route which goes through new Hope, and is about 145 miles. The other way is taking route 1. Has anyone done this before? I am under the impression that route 1 is just a highway with a small shoulder. It seems like this way would be alot faster, but also alot scarier and less scenic.
Additionally, we are working on a place to stay, but is there a new yorker here that can offer up a back-up place to shower/store our bikes/sleep. It would only be 2 of us, maybe a third. This would be for saturday night, and we'd come get our bikes sunday evening and head home on the bus.

I live near Route 1, and some parts don't have a shoulder, and if there is, there'll be cars getting on and off all the time. Doable? Yeah, but I'd look for a different way.

Yeah, it seems like route 1 would be a nightmare, but I know people have done it, and it seems to cut the ride down alot.

a lot of it is probably ok, but the thought of riding on the sections with no shoulder would scare me. it's hard enough to avoid getting hit in a car let alone on a bike.

i've ridden on an interstate out west (where it's legal) with no shoulder for some parts and it's incredibly stressful, so i'd like to avoid it. at the same time, the BCP route seems to not be the most direct route.

Try the Lincoln highway (27?) that runs parallel to 1. Cross the Delaware at Washington's Crossing. I think this might be the BCP route.
