Track wheels
 

Greetings fellas

I am assembling my first track bicycle. I have a road bicycle background and I know that wheels need to be as light as possible to facilitate the rider's acelaration of the bicycle and to save grams for difficult climbs. Now my question is, how should a good track wheel be and why? Do I need those road wheels with two and a half spokes per wheel or just the contrary? Do I need a super light carbon rim, or a simple 450 g aluminium rim is enough?

For track wheels, a lot depends on the event. For sprinting events stiff wheels are more important that weight and for pursuit (and other endurance events) weight becomes an issue.

Other things to bear in mind is that a higher spoke count is good as it will help your wheels survive crashes (which there will be) or getting pedals etc in your wheels.

You've also got the tubular vs clincher debate, but I think if youre serious about racing tubulars are the way to go. I'm training on clinchers currently (as I have to ride to the track), but if I really got into, I would go the tubular route again.

If u have no problem with money get campy, mavic, zipp or maybe corima track wheel sets... if money is an issue get anything at ebay, after all looks like u r not going to do racing but use the track bike in the street. If thats the case get anything... any s**t will do what do u need.
