NY weekend ride
anyone want to go for group fixie rides on the weekends? out to the suburbs or even the countryside, or city rides, anything with a little bit of distance.
if this is your first time reading this thread, just go to the end and read the last coupla posts. otherwise you'll get confused by our debates on when and where to meet.
we have been meeting at Kudo Beans, a coffee shop on first avenue and third street, usually around 7am, but time and place are open to debate. so chime in.
our philosophy is the more the merrier. i find it more important to ride with a group than to ride the fastest or "drop" anyone. but sometimes we rabbit out if everyone is into it, and sometimes we split the group. wear a helmet, just in case we take river road or go through piermont, where you can get a ticket for not having one.
fixies and single speeds are encouraged, but if you want to bring gears, go ahead.

yeah. sorry about that. the world will never know of the beautiful prose it has lost. sniff.
so, it looks like i am putting together a ride starting saturday morning going to montauk. the plan will be to take a morning train to babylon and follow the montauk century route out to my little burgh. stay over and camp if you want (i have a four person tent out there) or take an evening train back.
marceli is in, and gnawa is in. anyone else down?

just note that there is more room in the tent if needed, because i can always stay with friends or family.
no one's calling mr monsterlegs a wimp anymore.
oops, except missmercian (right has been earned).
goodnight all you little kings and queens of king's county (i've gotta go inhale some ether).

For those riding over the GWB :
Important Change Affecting Sidewalk Users Effective 6 am Monday, September 12, until further notice
The north sidewalk will reopen and operate according to the below schedule:
Monday to Thursday, 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Friday, 6 a.m. until midnight
Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. until midnight
The south sidewalk will be closed at all times.
A Note to Bicyclists Using the George Washington Bridge Sidewalk
Bicyclists using the sidewalk are asked to walk their bikes for the safety of all sidewalk users. Bicyclists who choose to ride are asked to exercise caution and ride slowly. Pedestrians have the right-of-way at all times.
Just make sure you wear shoes you can walk on, lots of going up and down stairs, major pita

**** a duck. they just can't stand that people bike over that bridge. "Until further notice." I've heard people say that this might be the case until 2007 or 8.
AND, and it opens at 8am. What a load of crap.

i did the bridge today (to go to jersey and pick up my awesome new front wheel, DA hub laced to open pro) and it SUCKS! seriously, if you wear road shoes, you need to bring running shoes.
but do NOT try to ride the roadway. right marceli?

i'll be on the 7:19 from nostrand avenue to babylon, hopefully on the express. i just happen to live near that stop. leaving from babylon around 9am gets us to montauk mid afternoon --still time to surf before pitching the tent.
here's the return schedule:
https://www.lirr.org/lirr/html/ttn/mws.htm
anyone who goes will need either an lirr bike pass or an mta bike pass ($5 at penn station, good for eternity).
anyone who is not going could organize the local ride. anyone?
well, off to the foxes. . .

nice riding, men. headwind the whole way and we kicked butt. i was tired. slept like a baby.
i'm still out here (the other guys went home yesterday) and i'm thinking of riding back. i'm just afraid i'll get lost going the other way.
somebody post some of those pictures (the non-embarrassing ones, pls).
