That dudes a winner. It seems like he doesn't understand the concept of bad ideas compounding or its a joke.

brakless, I assume thats solid copper not copper plate on the pipe, no clips and straps, radial rear, ancient weather damaged tires... what else is there its kinda like one of those what's wrong with this picture games.

funny i posted something a while back about the use of radial laced rears on the drive side and how it was a track phenomenon. lemme see if i can find it.

edit: here https://www.geocities.com/spokeanwheel/lacingsr.htm#hr

but it says that radial on both sides is stupid

sweating some caps onto that copper pipe would not only make it safer, but way more badass!

Reminds me of the straight bars I carved out of wood last year.
Have yet to use those.

Wasn't there a bike on the FGG with a stick jammed in the stem for handlebars? Seriously folks, are real handlebars that expensive?

oh wow. This guy definitely didn't take any physics in high school. The tall gearing might be a saving grace, but otherwise that rear wheel is a baaaaaad idea. radial lacing is really only a good idea on a front wheel with a rim brake or no brake. Driven wheels and hub/disc brakes put tons of unneccesary force on a radial-laced wheel.

That said, I've never heard of a failure because of this, but I have also never looked for stats and horror stories. Just the physics involved spells bad idea, case studies aside.

That's because nobody else is fool enough do build a wheel like that. We have already had a thread about this idiot bike, BTW.
The only reason why he hasn't died is because he obviously doesn't ride this piece of crap. Unless we call cruising on the sidewalks at walking pace "riding".

Well I ride a fixie with paired-spokes on the rear wheel, 64-14t gearing, knife-sharpeners for handlebars, no tires, and three taped-together pencils stuck in the cranks for pedals. I'm hardcore.

I saw a guy a couple of days ago riding a beach cruiser with a length of galvanized steel pipe for a bar. It was damn near 2 1/2 feet long

Just because you don't understand physics doesn't mean it doesn't apply to you.

You win, sivat.

Incidentally, Jobst Brandt reportedly claims that theoretically, radial rears transmit drive force the most efficiently of all wheels. (Nice sentence, eh?) He also adds that in practice, building one would be an idiocy.

https://sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html#half-radial

Been shown before, but he actually explains why radial on the non-drive side is ideal...FWIW

i run one of those radial drive side, cross non drive wheels that sheldon describes...and i have to say that it completely blows chunks.

everytime i get out of the saddle, my rear wheel creaks from flexing. infact, i had to take this wheel off my geared road bike because i'd rub the brakes (even when i opened up the calipers to give it more space). all this coming from a 130lb guy who definately is no heavy weight and no power monster. they're no good.

i was closely inspecting as to why the rear would creak when i get out of the saddle the other day...u know why that was? the creaking is from the spoke perpendicular to the ground totally de-tensioning as i apply force through the pedal stroke. i can physically see the spoke bend and hear the distinctive *click* when i observed this. (no, i didnt observe this while riding )
