decent affordable wheelset?!?!?!?!
what is a decent affordable wheelset that would be worth purchasing for my singlespeed road conversion? any good places you can recomend to purchase a set online?..thanks

Any wheelset you can get your hands on + conversion kit (spacers + cog in lieu of a cassette). Make sure the spacing is the same as your bike. Enjoy. If you're looking for fancy, check out IRO Cycle ... they cater to the fixed guys a lot but may have a nice singlespeed option too.

I like the iro wheels. $105 for the rear with a good quality sealed hub and nice rim. I spent 70 on one from nycbikes that came with a horrible rim and cheap suzue hub. I wish i had ponied up the extra 35.

http://www.thebikebiz.com/ProductDet...%2DWHL%2DSUZ01 I was in their shop and took a look at one. Fortunately, the buyers remorse set in before I got out my credit card that time. The thing is that this wheelset is all over the place for that price. |
Depending on how much you want to spend Ben's Cycle has a pretty decent deal on a Formula fixed/free hub laced to Deep V's. Then again IRO has essentially the same thing but you can pick yer color. Thery're both about $250. though.

(You also can use normal-length valve stems) That wheelset gets my vote if you're looking for something pretty cheap with decent parts. The one I got from Nashbar is spaced 120mm, but had a long axle so you could theoretically space it to 130 or whatever if you needed to and still have the track nuts grab enough thread on the axle. |
