portland
i'm home. nothing to ride on until this afternoon at the soonest, but the trees are green, the breeze is blowing, and i can smell the ****ing lilacs in the air. my japanese maple collection is still sitting pretty on mom's deck. a nice day, people. a nice day to be back in God's country.

hey! welcome back! if you have a ride later, drop me a line. i'm still looking for **** to do tonight, but i know there's gotta be some fun stuff...bands or something...
there was a metal fest i was gonna go to, but i decided 15 bucks + booze money would just about wipe me out until wednesday. |
got a bunch of old friends to catch up with, but we should def. grab a beer sometime this week. i'll be working a little closer to your neck of the woods (well, 9th and fremont), so it should be convenient.
|
where are you at?
obviously by the orientation of downtown/big pink and the fremont bridge your in SE, but it seems like you're up on a hill. mt tabor perhaps? today is an AWESOME day for riding. on my trip ome from work I marveled at the warmth/100% humidity combination and how its actually kind of perfect biking weather. all the blazing sun lately has led me to realize that sunburn is a reality and it's actually pretty rad when the weather cools you off but doesnt make you cold. portland rules. welcome. |
oh wait. looking at those pictures again maybe not SE.
oops, whatever. go ride! |

mom's house, on cornell road, just up from NW 23rd and lovejoy. today i saw a lycra-wearing guy riding up the hill FAST on what looked like a custom orange fixie and another relatively fast guy who had a handbike or whatever you call those things for folks who can't use their legs to pedal. it was sweet. i talked up portland so much when i was down south that i almost began to doubt myself, but there was no need for doubt. it's everthing it's cracked up to be and more. and i will never forget that again. |
seriously. i love going out to some of the commuter paths around 5-ish and looking at all the people on bikes.
|
I was gonna say it looks a lot like the hills above NW. Some great riding up there on a geared bike, but my knees shudder at the though of 48x18 fixed up that ****.
Anyone want to get together for a little ride/ drink on wed. night? I don't have to work and it'd be fun to assemble a crew for alittle pre WSI ride |
what sort of time? i wake up at 5:30 for work. any time this weekend for any of you?
though yes...pre WSI get-together sounds rad |
movingsooooooooooooooooooooon

high five!

i think we should make this a permanent portland thread like the ones from other cities.
|
not SE by any means. mom's house, on cornell road, just up from NW 23rd and lovejoy. funny, living just off mississippi ave, I always think of portland as really flat, becuase y'know the west hills don't count because people don't actually live there do they? which I know is just silly. the west hills are covered in houses, of course people live there. just nobody I know. where you gone or school/back for summer? |
looks beautiful as always - i love your city too
my Dad lives in Lake O and I am up there a couple 3 or four times a year to visit, also have friends out by Hawthorne dist. i always get in a ****ty mood when i have to come back here to SLC and then all I do is compare how ****ty it is here compared to pdx. so now i'm jonesing for another visit thanks to the OP. |

critical mass meets at the north parkblocks elephant statue 30 ft or so north of burnside.
|
heh, there was one night where some girls i was talking to at a bar and i sat under that elephant and drank whiskey until they said they were buying me irish car bombs...then it was goodbye, elephant.
|
so yesterday i was heading to work, about 9 am, right in the middle of one of those downpours, going north on NE 7th Ave. it wasn't too cold, out, though, and even though I was soaked to the bone, I noticed a big grin spreading across my face. i looked up, and across the street a pretty girl commuting had an even bigger one.
it was that moment when I really realized I was home. how's the rain been treating you guys? |
ha. I think I know who that girl is.
was she riding a black track bike? |
dunno, all i noticed was that wonderful smile! but I did see a girl on a black track bike a bit further north on 7th today, maybe it was her. I'll pay closer attention tomorrow.
