Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? what's up, Milwaukee?

I'll be there from May 26-29 for Bike!Bike! if all goes according to plan.

What's a Wisconson neophyte with a bike and a pocketfull of loonies to do?

Any good vegan/vegetarian restaurants (a little dairy while on vacation shouldn't scar my soul too badly)?

Bike shops I should check out, preferably ones with loads of cheap vintage campy pista gear? yah, right!

BTW, if you're at any of the workshops, I'll be the Chinese guy with the red Samson.

cheers.

Def check out:
Bens (1018 W. LINCOLN AVENUE) best bet for vintage in the city. Every once in a while they'll have something sweet.
Rainbow Jersey (604 North Wilson Drive) They have some old vintage track frames on display. lumenredundas and hyperRevue work there.
Cory the Bike Fixer (2410 N Murray Ave.) Another good shop, good deals.

Also, I don't know why I haven't heard of Bike!Bike!, since I DO live here, but I'm not quite sure what it is. Please inform. Maybe I'll see you around the city, I've got the black bareknuckle with pink deep-v's and the diamond grill.

Be sure to make it to the Critical Mass ride on the 26th! There should be mad drama with the police and media and tons of riders after what happened last month! The ride meets at Riverside Park (Locust and Oakland) at 5:30.

This is absolutely incredible. Giant respect and appreciation for the organizers and participants. Wish I could attend. Next year, for sure.

The last critical mass in Da Peg was redickulous. The ride was half standard mass, half protest of operation Charging Bison, the largest urban military exercise in Canadian history (it really wasn't that big). About 40-50 riders, and the same number of kops (!), like 12 bike cops, 15 cruisers, a few "unmarked" PUVs (Pork Utility Vehicles) and a paddywagon.

All in all, 7 arrests, a buttload of BS charges, and ample photographic and video evidence. A friendly lawyer who happens to work at city hall will be taking this to city council. Word is some of the donutboyz are going to be charged with assault. Word.

Critical Mass Milwaukee ought to be "fun"

OK, we're there this weekend - what's the best place for us to be staying? We're looking at downtown places right now but is that going to put us too far away from the decent bars?

And those bars... what are they like?

the bars downtown are pretty lame, so if you're into that sort of thing, then you're golden.

This place is very cool. Old, friendly, and close. The room doors look like coffin lids.
