Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Leather....

"You can buy the same NJS-approved top tube protector that the Keirin boys use. It's made by Kashimax of rubbery plastic and steel, sold by a handful of North American shops, and costs an eye-watering $50.00. It looks cool in the package, in that odd Manga/microcar/Hello Kitty way that mostly serves to remind that our aesthetic cultures are not yet a perfect marriage. The Kashimax protector ages badly, though, with the plastic layer quickly yellowing and bubbles forming underneath."

It protects your top tube from the chromo drop bar when you crash and the drop bar swings around and hits the top tube. Never mind the your nuts..

I ran this one up from an old pair of Calgary Flames ice hockey pants. They suck.., and I never liked those damn pants anyway! It works great to stop the tube from getting dinged when locking it up, but it sounded like I was riding in a pair of corduroys! WIFF, WIFF.. with every pedal stroke!

$ 2.50 - scrap piece of thick canvas from the fabric store.
$ 4.00 - Spray adhesive.
$ 1.50 - 1" Pipe insulator from lowes.

It was so easy and maybe took 15min. The foam doesn't wrap completely, but it's comes really close. I was gonna use 1 or 2 black zip ties to make sure it's nice and snug.
