Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

nyc man down in pdx....

polo accident. one of the posters on here (bldzr) was wounded in a polo match. he's in the hospital right now, hopefully to be soon released with some sore spots and good health...but possibly also to be released with broken bones and little possibility to work soon. i know we've passed the hat here and i don't know if anything else will happen in that regard, but a lot of people's thoughts are with this dude, and i want to let people know this happened.

i know, for my part, i hope he's okay.

well, i thought perhaps some support might come of this...i'm sure he needs some support of some kind right now, given his potential injuries.

I hope he's ok. What were his injuries? I always though of polo as pretty low-impact, but I guess we don't realize how dangerous things are until they happen.

what gave you the idea that bike polo is low impact? you've never seen the portland crew play it, clearly...

Unfortunately, the BMEF can't be accessed in Bill's case because he wasn't hurt on the job. I don't know the SF rider's situation. Also, the emergency fund is running quite dry so if any of you are feeling generous, go to the above link.

i haven't heard much. i don't really have the inside scoop, i just thought some people on here might know him and not know what happened yet. anyway...a handlebar hit him in the sternum as he fell to the ground and broke it, if preliminary diagnoses were correct.

he is out of ICU right now. Apparently he is going to be in the hospital for a while and he might not be able to fly anywhere for some time. This is due to the pressure from the cabin and the nature of his injury. anyone can go to www.portlandmessenger.org and donate to his fund. Looks like he is going to have one hell of a bill.
