    Found an issue of Scientific American from 1897 at a flea market with some ads and illustrated articles about bikes. Thought I'd share some photos:

    This is what completely blew my mind. The first clipless pedal was made in 1895. It had effing rotational float as well! The same year, double-sided pedals were made, and recessed cleats.

    I love the old frames... wonder what the geometry/ride was like on them? Makes me want to build up a bike like those.

    Cool stuff. Interesting, $100 for a pretty basic bike, I wonder what the cost in current dollars would be. I would guess well over $1000.
