Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Step 1) Check the out library to see what bike repair manuals they can get for you.

Step 2) Buy a cheapie bike off of craigslist or a yardsale to fix up...mess up your project bike while you tinker/learn, not your main ride.

Step 3) ????

Step 4) Profit!

There really isnt any reason to spend a dime on learning how to work on your bike.
Sheldon and Park have more knowledge than you'll ever need.
