Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Almost got clipped by a stupid driver

So I was on my way on my new SS to ride my favorite trail for the first time on it. On the way there there is a circle type drive with a road that shoots off in another direction on the side of it and this is normally the worst part of my ride to the trail because drivers always try to get ahead of me because there isn't enough room in the lane for a bike and a car. I have had a few close calls in this section of road but never this close today. There is a set of two of these circles in about a quarter mile strip of road. For the first one, as I ususally do, I look back when I am getting close to it, I look back to see if there are any cars close to me to let them by to avoid any mishaps. Today I looked back as I was gaining on the circles just like always, and I see a car far enough that I thought I had plenty of time to get through both circles. Then the driver did the stupidest thing, they floored it and right where the lane was the narrowest at the beginning of the circle, the driver passed me with about half an inch to spare. So my reaction was just to yell "Wtf are you doing" or something like that and I guess they heard me because right after the circle they pull to the side of the road and start yelling things like "Get out of the road you stupid biker!" So after a few things like that said we both ended up just saying "**** you" and driving off. When she pulled onto the road again she went down the rest of the road at what looked like 80-90mph and the speed limit is 40.

Now, onto the really good part. I was soooo hoping there was a cop behind the next turn where the sometimes is to catch this driver and give her a hefty speeding ticket. Guess what, there was . As I rode by I gave a nice little smile and a wave .

Oooh, I was so happy when a similar mother****er crashed 5 sec after he passed me dangerously... It's a shame another car was involved, though. No injuries, but the bast@rd may have to pay for his car's repairs. Satisfying.

If I were you I would have went further than that and told the cop she tried to run you over and want to press charges. Even if she were found innocent in a court of law this would be enough to REALLY teach her a lesson!

30+ mph over is a huge fine and if she is going more than double the limit Im pretty sure she lost her license. that is unless the cop wanted to be cool. from your story she sounds like one of those idiots that would have mouthed off to him like she did to you. If so, her @ss may soon be riding a bike down the road trying to get somewhere. karma works fast. ha
