Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Chicago: LBS with good shoe selection

gonna be hanging out in chicago wed and thurs and i'm looking for some good clipless shoes to replace the ones i got. anyone know of any lbs' that have a good selection of shoes. i'd rather not go to a lbs that has a rep for sucking otherwise. i have a few shoes in mind, but i want a shoe that really fits, so i need to try them on. thanks.

Yojimbo's doesn't have much, aside from a few slick pairs of track shoes!
not sure if Upgrade or Boulevard Bikes carries shoes.
Rapid Transit might (North Avenue)

um, ****...I dunno. i hate other places mainly.
There is a place near Marcus', on Wells north of Division, called Village Cycle Center.
plus, you can score some killer Middle Eastern food at Old Jerusalem just up the street

I'm going to second Performance. Other LBS's have too small a collection to be worth your time.

I got mine at Kozy's. I don't really like Kozy's too much, but they have a bit of a selection.

Check with On The Route Bicycles. Lincoln and Belmont, on Lincoln just south of Belmont on the west side of the street. www.ontheroute.com

I didn't look real close but they seemed to have a variety.

Performance really does have the best selection, by a _huge_ factor. **** village cycles, don't spend your money at a shop that won't even let people test ride bikes. I've never met anyone there who knew what they were doing. Kozy's has an OK selection, and they can call around to their other stores if they don't have a size.

If you don't want to go to performance because they're corporate or whatever, call a bunch of shops and ask them what shoes they have in about your size before you get on the bike.
