Make sure to stretch your hams and quads. Cycling and running works those muscles differently and my legs are much happier when I stretch.

it's much easier to ride everyday than run everyday.
I've been doing both for years and only run maybe 3x a week.

I just started running agian.
I've been riding fixed no longer than 2 months.
I think the combination is GREAT! It rounds out your legs..
And keeps your lungs pumping.
I was running @ the paved track and expereinced minor aching.
Then I tried running cross country. dirt and grass. It was a lot better.
I do about 5km of running. Then back on the fixed.

cross country sucked for me, i never imagine one human being could twist his ankle so many times in just one season. I'll stick to the nice even pavement, even if its a bit harder.

I hated running in school because I'd get the worst shin splints. When my wife wanted to buy new running shoes, we went to a running store, and I just had to get a set for myself. Well, these shoes had lotsa room in the toe box, which I wasn't used to, and they were damn ugly with their pretty flat, straight last. When I took them out, though, I ran a couple of miles and didn't experience splints at all! I bought some shoes at foot locker the next week and thought I could take those out running, and they pretty much cause shin splints and foot pain. I envy you runners that can actually use the usual "running" shoe on sale at the sporting goods stores. I'd rather ride my bike though. yesterday I had to go around a wall of runners running shoulder-to-shoulder against traffic. I wonder what they'd do if a car does a "Houston-style" right turn, blowing through the stop sign and hitting them up for a 7-10 split?
