Neighbor killed my bike!!

So I decided to hack some braze-ons off my bike. I borrowed some powersaw thing from my neighbor to get them off and smoth em out later. I turn around to plug in the saws extra battery and he decides to give it a go. I come back and he has hacked halfway through my top tube.

Well I certainly can't ride it now. what am I supposed to do? he offered to have some guy at work weld it. I was planning on ordering a new frame soon because this one is too small anyways, but I was waiting until I had a steady job. Am I now forced to buy a new frame? I was thinking about a spicer.

Pretty much.

Just invent the metal TT protector. Weld a sleeve of steel over that part of the frame. Start a new fad. Just never ever crash.

It's already been invented. It's called a weld followed with a pipe clamp. I've seen it done...twice.

Looks like he missed.

If it were me and I had the money, I'd use this as a good reason to buy a new frame.

Also, taking inspiration from this story: https://www.fortwayne.com/mld/fortway...l/14833690.htm

I'd start a sign war with the neighbor that killed my bike.

Good luck.

He said something about being real sorry and talked about getting some guy at work to weld it.

And the cut goes through the underside too. maybe i should walk around town with my frame and rant about my terrible neighbor.

Did you two get permission from your parents before you started this project?

He's an old guy.
I'm a youngin' but not that young.

quick question: would a shimano 600 headset fit into a spicer? I know i'll have to get a new bb and seatpost already.

Battery operated reciprocating saw - $425
Blades $20
Finally having a chance to get back at your neighbor for letting his dog sh*t in your yard
Priceless

A third option, if you have a good frame builder in your area and want to salvage the bike, you could probably get the top-tube replaced for about $100. Then plan on adding another $100 or so for an inexpensive powerdcoat.

A quick google search revealed these bike builders who work in steel near you
https://www.anvilbikes.com/
https://www.columbinecycle.com/

and I got my pricing from cycles bikyle in bryn mawr.
https://www.bikyle.com/Repaints.htm

Just an idea.

i always think these sort of "my friend" stories are really just people trying to cover their own mistakes.

maybe you should kill him with your bike and start a new thread entitled "neighbor killed by bike". or at least stuff a dog turd under the handle of his car door.

Pfff i'm glad im not the one who fuxored it up. I would feel like such an idiot and I could only blame myself.

As for the replacing the top tube. I found this bike for free and its just a peugeot. I was already looking for a bigger frame cause im 6'3" and I look like a clown on this one. But thanks, I would definitely look into that if I didn't need something bigger.
