I actually agree with you on that one. The past week has seemed particularly dirty and gross. The QB bridge has more garbage and broken glass on it than i've seen in the past year, the streets are all nasty as well, people in cars are driving crazier than usual with complete disregard, and yet we still ride.

the gauntlet of refuse and broken glass at the bottom of the QB bridge on friday afternoon.

this is on two different rear wheels. i've done a complete overhaul, checked the rim, replaced the rim tape, checked the tires and i'm even using a new tire on one of em. one at the rumble can't be blamed on the filth. the valve broke off after pumping the tube up.

there was a news report last night about the murder rate rising in the city for the first time in many years. take that with a grain of salt though.

yeah, i wasn't sure if it was my imagination or not but it does seem like the manhattan bridge is getting pretty nasty. it used to be a nice place to take a crap and cover it up with a sweater. now, it seems, everyone is doing it.

i moved here from new orleans. i'm not gonna sweat it until it reaches 2,000 per year.

edit: actually for the murder rate in NYC to equal that in NOLA it would have to hit around 4,000

Philly's been averaging a murder a day for the last year or so. Not sure how that compares to NYC. Population is 1.4 to 8.

im hoping that it will return to "normal" when the contruction has been completed.
until then i will continue to remind peds that they belong on the south side of the bridge, out of harms way...y'know, for their own good.

on a side note, if anybody should be travelling south on Allen street there is a massive hole in the bike lane between Broome and Grand. there is a metal plate covering half of it, but its still f'n huge.

it has been reported to 311, but a reminder probably wouldn't hurt.

I almost ***** myself on the Q'boro tonight, but I held it and crapped in front of Trump Tower on 3rd Ave. instead.

Good man! you've made that building better because of it. I think more people need to **** on trump's phallic symbols... and maybe trump himself.
