Now, I've heard this before, but I have /never/ actually seen a set of sealed bearing Superbe Pro hubs. My understanding is that there are the NJS versions (stamped) and non-NJS (24/28/32h, plus non-NJS 36h) but /all/ are loose bearing.

Has anyone seen these mythical sealed bearing Superbe Pro hubs, or (as I suspect) are they a myth?

they are not heavy at all, and they are better than DA. they spin more smoothly, and stay spinning smoothly much longer than any other hub i've ever ridden. they have the best look (in my opinion) very light and clean and simple.

I know a shop in NYC that has a box of 20 and 24 hole sealed superbe pro hubsets.

I've seen 24h Superbe Pro hubs before, at a shop in NYC... and they're loose ball. It makes no logical sense for there to be two different tooling setups for the same set of hubs.

Okay, but here's the thing. They don't make them anymore and they're extremely difficult to find for a reasonable price. If you have the cash, then go for it. But unless you have a fetish for hard to find, obscure bike parts (and I'm not necessarily saying there's anything wrong with that), or a good lead/hook-up on a pair, then I see no reason to pursue them.

I would challenge anyone on this forum to do a blind test of the hubs the OP just mentioned and if anyone was able to pick out the suntour hubs more than statistically probable, I would be obliged to pay you 10 MILLION WHITE TURBO SADDLES!

Right, but the tooling for the loose ball and the sealed bearing hubs are distinctly different, and they're different models of hubs at a sizable difference in price point.

mine were cheaper than a pair of phils, da, or cf suzue pro max. *shrug* atmidedly the superbe's were second hand but they were in good shape.

they're not THAT hard to find. NOS ones yea, but they're out there.
