London bike ride tomorrow or Wednesday?
It's been a while so who wants to go for a bike ride?
MyGimp has told me that it's salmonchild's birthday on Wednesday so I figure that's a good enough excuse. Herne Hill races are on Wednesday too so maybe that could get involved. Whatever we do it should be 1% as hell.
I am going to Amsterdam really early on Friday for a long weekend so am free tomorrow and Wednesday, but not Thursday.

Can't do tonight and tomorrow night is race night so maybe we can just have a 1% track outing followed by a few beers in Brixton after the racing on weds.
Think Trespasser is going to be riding, not too sure about Tech.

That sounds like a good plan. Trespasser is going for sure. I might do the usual come and watch deal as I still haven't motivated myself to get out of bed and go to the intro session.

That's right dude - if you wanna come down to the track at herne hill tonight there'll be a few of us around. We get together and go for a ride on the streets every so often as well.

Another Londoner reporting in. I only have a geared jewel at the moment, and plans for tonight... so won't be out and about this week.
We should seriously have a London pirates thread though and our own pillages. London is lacking in good bike culture, but it's not like there aren't enough of us.

South is the short answer
Here's an MSN map:
Herne Hill on live.local.com
And here's a Google map:
Herne Hill on local.google.co.uk
I think you need to zoom out on both to see anything.

It's so quaint that our track is from 1908 or something. Herne Hill is next to brixton and the track is just off burbage road.

It's not quite Manchester, but yes, it's a velodrome.

On some overground sections during off peak hours yes.
However they don't allow bikes to be taken into the deep sections of the tube system, you can't cross London on a lot of tube lines.
That said, foldables are fine as passengers are allowed to carry anything that can fit into a 1m x 1m x 1m cube of space.
The question would be though: Why bother? Bikes are the fastest mode of transport in London, the average speed of rush hour traffic is a mere 7mph, for cyclists it's between 12-15mph... though I average about 18mph through traffic. I beat the tube and train for a door-to-door time, so why bother going underground at all?
