magic gearing for last of the steel stumpjumpers

Has anyone singlespeeded one of these beautiful machines? What I am realy looking for is the magic gearing. I have seen where the right combo fits perfectly into the vertical dropouts. I can do this easy with a singulator but would rather not, I mean where's the challenge?

Are you planning to use it on trails or just roads?

I was going to do this to my lovely orange early 90's Rockhopper comp but ended up building up a new fixed gear road bike instead. However I was going to cheat using a White Industries ENO Eccentric hub. I bought the hub and everything. It's a beautiful hub and you can pick them up for about $100 on Ebay but what fun is that? (I sold mine for about that).

I run 42x15 (or 42x17 with a half-link) with a well stretched BMX chain. 1996, 18" Cro-Mo frame.

Not sure if this helps, but on my 96 M2 stumpjumper a 44x16 is perfect.

I've actually done this twice on two different Stumpjumpers and gotten different combos. I bought the 15, 16, 17 and 18 tooth cheapo Shimano BMX sprockets and swapped them until I got the right combo. Then I replaced the cheapo with a beefier Surlycog. Total cost, about $50 - or the price of a Singulator.
