Fashion takes on Mercian

This ended up in my feedreader this morning:

Paul Smith designs for Mercian.

I don't know who Paul Smith is but I'd def ride the yellow/orange and pink track bike. The green and purple roadie not so much. At least he kept the Mercian trademark barber pole on the seat tube.

Hrm, those look like Phils as well and a nice saddle too, no mention of pricepoint though.

i don't see how this is any different from any other mercian, except that the colors are uglier.

maybe thats what "design" work is about

Other than the reverse lever I think that's pretty hot. The lugs don't reek craftsmanship, but the look is good.

I like the seat stay, but other than that it isn't impressive to me at all.

I know a guy named Paul Smith...

never realized he was color blind though.

Seriously though... can't you get a Mercian in any color you want? Why get one with some other dude's name on it? What's next, a red white an blue Tommy Hillfrigger Walker?

That is really hideous. If I were going to try to design an ugly bike, that's what I would make. Exactly.

that has to be the ugliest lugs, and worst colors i've seen on a bike in a while. and its not even land shark/colnago ugly. Mericians regular bikes look way better.

Mine would be that green designer track bike that had that weird promotion idea... y'know, the one that had all those people with overly large legs.

That bike was disgusting.

I like the touring bike. I like the old school logo better though. I guess I'll never understand fashion.

The fork has NO rake. I asked them to give me a straight blade, expecting them to put some rake in it. Oh well, I may have Waterford craft me a raked straight blade so I can have much improved handling.

Oh thats your bike? Hell yea.

Yea the fork is sexy, but I can imagine it being crazy to ride with on the street. But it sure looks pretty.

Thanks for the appreciation; it's been ridden on the track and in one alleycat (crazy, I know). It sucks that I'm so cautious with it because the track is two hours away and it sees barely any riding time with these outrageous gas prices. Hopefully someday soon I'll move closer to a 'drome...
