Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Orange 20 - New Shop in L.A.

I've noticed there's a new LBS in the works that's going to be located across from and run by some folks who run the Bicycle Kitchen. Word is they'll be focusing on flatland BMX, fixies, and commuter bikes. I rode by, but it still looked to be under construction. Anybody know more about it - when they'll open? What they'll be carrying?

I'm excited to see what happens with them.

They should call it Agent Orange and change it to a Vietnam-themed bike shop.

Juvi was talking about going to a party at this place last month. I think the guy is somehow involved with the kitchen as well.

My current favorite shop that I highly recommend is Hollywood Pro Bicycles a couple of blocks east of Hollywood and Highland. It's on my commute home so I stop there pretty often.

Really nice guys that are all about trying to be a good "neighborhood shop" and focusing on helping daily riders rather than weekend warriors. They stock a bunch of fixie/track stuff as well and converted my old '70s road bike (in under 20 minutes) when my ancient rear wheel finally crapped out.

Seems like Orange 20 will kind of be the same deal as far as who they're targetting, which'd be why I'm curious to see what they carry. Though HPB does do mountain bikes and doesn't do flatland BMX, I wonder how much overlap there'll actually be.

when will it open? I'll be in LA again later this month, bringing one of the track bikes... I think the concept this time, it'd be cool to check out some shops and do some riding.

Orange 20 is the jammy jam. The owners rock(not just because one is my twin). They will be tryin to carry mostly low-key semi-underground items. They will def be specializing in Flatland and Track Bikes. As of now they are rollin with EAI and KHS for the big dogs. And for the underdogs they have Swobo, ReLoad, UnderTheWeather, Bailey and a bunch of smaller grass-roots brands. The guys at Orange 20 are willing to ship and can get most Track **** out at a competitive price. If you would like to be hooked up with them let me know via PM and I can help you out.

Wangster, doubt I will be able to ride by then but we will def hang-out.

Will they be selling any used parts, or would that be stepping on the Kitchen's toes?
